Description
Geyserville is one of California’s true classics, a wine that has been part of Ridge’s story since 1966 and has been bottled every year since. Its hallmark is consistency, both in quality and in the way it expresses the rugged, historic vineyard sites of Sonoma County. The 2021 vintage reinforces why Geyserville has become a touchstone for Zinfandel-based blends, not only in California but in the broader conversation about world-class red wines.
The blend brings together 76% Zinfandel with 16% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah and a dash of Alicante Bouschet, organically farmed and harvested by hand. A dry winter and spring meant low yields, but the resulting fruit was concentrated, with balanced ripeness and natural acidity. Fermented on native yeasts and aged for sixteen months in American oak barrels, the wine is deep ruby-garnet in the glass, offering aromas of plum, black cherry, baking spice, violets, and wet stone. The palate is full-bodied and layered, with dark fruit at its core, fine-grained tannins, and a long, juicy finish.
Geyserville remains a benchmark, a wine that reflects both Ridge’s philosophy of minimal intervention and its unmatched role in preserving California’s old-vine heritage. It will reward patience over the next decade and beyond.
