Description

Tenuta San Guido’s 'Le Difese' 2024 is an incredibly versatile and approachable expression from the legendary Bolgheri estate, famously home to Sassicaia. This vintage continues the refined tradition of blending Cabernet Sauvignon with Sangiovese, beautifully marrying international structure with a vibrant Italian soul. While its "big brother" often requires years of cellaring, Le Difese is crafted for more immediate enjoyment.

The 2024 vintage offers a bright, aromatic bouquet of red cherries, wild berries, and subtle Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and remarkably fresh, featuring silky tannins and a crisp acidity. This balance makes it a dream for food pairing; it shines alongside classic Tuscan fare like wild boar ragu, grilled meats, or aged Pecorino. It remains an elegant, accessible entry into elite Italian viticulture.

DECANTER 92
Tasted by: James Button (at London, 05 Feb 2026)
Drinking Window: 2026 - 2030
Utilising bought-in Sangiovese from family and friend estates in Chianti and Chianti Rufina – 75% of the blend in 2024 – this vintage of Le Difese perfectly reflects the cooler, rainier growing season, resulting in gentle aromatics and wonderful freshness. Crushed red and black berries combine with chalky tannins. A poised and juicy sip, it's soft yet hemmed in a bit by its structure. Give it a few more months then enjoy.

JAMES SUCKLING 92
A fresh and crunchy red with aromas of plums, cherries, light chocolate and cinnamon, following through to a medium body with fine tannins and a crisp finish. Tangy, with a touch of orange peel. A delicious and satisfying glass of Tuscany red. The second wine of Sassicaia. Drink now.
