Domaine Christian Moreau Père & Fils is renowned for crafting some of the most precise and terroir-driven wines in the region, and their Grand Cru 'Les Clos' is arguably the crown jewel of their portfolio. As the largest and most celebrated of the seven Chablis Grand Crus, 'Les Clos' is legendary for producing wines of exceptional power, structure, and intense minerality, deeply rooted in the region's iconic Kimmeridgian limestone soils.

The 2023 vintage captures a brilliant balance between the sun-kissed warmth of the growing season and the classic, steely tension expected from top-tier Chablis. In the glass, it reveals a luminous pale gold colour. The nose is tightly coiled yet incredibly complex, offering delicate aromas of white flowers, crisp green apple, and Meyer lemon, all underpinned by a profound, crushed-stone minerality and a subtle touch of toasted almond from judicious oak ageing.

On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, delivering a striking depth of orchard fruit flavours interwoven with a distinct oyster-shell salinity. A driving, energetic acidity cuts through the wine’s textural richness, providing exceptional focus and leading to a long, precise, and mouth-watering finish. This is a remarkably age-worthy Chablis.

With its pale lemon yellow colour, pronounced aromas of citrus and ripe nectarine and touches of smoky reduction and hay, this grand cru shows lovely concentration and lively acidity that bring depth and carry it through an impressively long finish. The grapes come from five parcels in Les Clos that total 3.2ha. Gently crushed before fermentation; aged in stainless steel. Although approachable young, this has the substance to age.

The 2023 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a neutral, stony nose that is outperformed by the Valmur this year. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Fresh clementines intermix with gooseberry and red apple notes. It is quite peppery and admirably persistent toward the finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle.
