Description
If you want a white wine that brings true stature and elegance to your table, the Marqués de Murrieta Capellanía White Rioja Reserva 2020 is a great choice. Produced by one of the most historic estates in Rioja, this wine is a masterclass in balance and depth. It is crafted entirely from Viura grapes grown in a single vineyard, known for its unique soil, which imparts a distinct character that simply cannot be replicated elsewhere.
Upon pouring, the wine shows a brilliant straw colour that immediately hints at its quality. The nose is incredibly pure and inviting, offering a complex bouquet of ripe white fruits, such as golden apple and conference pear. These fruit notes are beautifully complemented by delicate aromas of toasted hazelnuts, almonds, and a touch of creamy spice derived from its careful time ageing in oak barrels.
On the palate, this Reserva is wonderfully rounded and full bodied, yet it retains a bright acidity that keeps it feeling fresh and vibrant. You will discover layers of flavour, including ripe orchard fruits, citrus zest, and subtle mineral undertones that provide a long, clean finish. This is a sophisticated and versatile wine that shines throughout the entire year. It pairs magnificently with roasted white meats, creamy pasta dishes, or grilled sea bass. Whether you are hosting a special dinner or simply want to enjoy a glass of something truly refined, this wine offers an exceptional experience that celebrates the very best of Spanish winemaking tradition.
JAME SUCKLING 98 points/100
A fabulous old-vine viura, showing aromas of meringue, pine nuts and stones with subtle macadamia, precise white fruit and cream. Not fruity but really gastronomic. Clear, nuanced and bright, this has beautiful concentration on the almost full-bodied palate. Very long and textural. Fresh with just medium acidity. The finish lasts a minute with a nutty, oily feel reminiscent of jamon Iberico. Probably the best ever. Drink now or hold for the next 15-plus years.
