Description
Pol Roger Brut Réserve NV, affectionately known as the ‘White Foil’, is the defining Champagne of this esteemed, family-owned house. It is crafted from an equal blend of three grape varieties: Pinot Noir brings structure and body, Pinot Meunier adds roundness and fruitiness, and Chardonnay provides elegance and complexity. The grapes are sourced from around thirty different crus across the region.
The winemaking process is notable for its cool fermentation and deep cellar ageing, usually lasting three to four years. Unusually for a non-vintage Champagne, every bottle is still riddled by hand.
In the glass, it shows a pale golden hue with a fine, consistent stream of bubbles. The nose offers appealing aromas of white flowers, green apple, and fresh pear, which gradually open up to reveal warmer notes of freshly baked brioche, honeysuckle, and roasted nuts.
The palate is full-bodied and beautifully structured, balancing generous stone fruit flavours with a delicate, creamy texture. Crisp acidity provides freshness, leading to a long, satisfying finish. It is an excellent apéritif, but its weight and depth also make it a superb match for classic fish and chips, roasted poultry, or light seafood dishes.
