Description

Lagg Distillery is a bold and exciting addition to the south coast of the Isle of Arran, serving as the peaty and more adventurous sibling to the original distillery at Lochranza. The Corriecravie Edition is a fantastic example of their craft, showing off a much richer and deeper side to their heavily peated spirit. While the distillery is still relatively young, this release feels incredibly mature and well put together.

To create this specific character, the spirit is first matured in bourbon barrels before being finished for six months in Oloroso Sherry casks sourced directly from Miguel Martin in Jerez. The peat level is high at fifty parts per million, which gives the whisky a proper punch, but the sherry finish adds a lovely layer of sweetness and spice to keep everything in balance.

On the nose, you are met with a wonderful mix of dark chocolate and rich wood smoke, followed by hints of spiced red berries and hazelnuts. The palate is full bodied and oily, coating the mouth with flavours of grilled fruits and cocoa, all wrapped up in a dense and earthy peat smoke. It is a soulful and honest single malt that celebrates the rugged landscape of southern Arran. Whether you are a long term peat lover or just starting to explore smokier whiskies, the Corriecravie Edition offers a sophisticated and memorable experience that lingers long after the final sip.
