Description

Château Beaumont is located in the Haut-Médoc, positioned between Margaux and Saint-Julien. As a Cru Bourgeois, it is known for producing reliable wines that reflect the classic character of the region. The 2021 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, grown on deep gravelly soils which help the grapes ripen effectively.

The wine is aged in French oak barrels, adding a subtle structure without overpowering the fruit. It is medium-bodied and offers straightforward flavours of blackcurrant and red berries, with a hint of cedar and spice. Because of the cooler 2021 growing season, the wine has a fresh acidity and smooth tannins, making it approachable and balanced. It is a clean, classic Bordeaux that pairs well with roast chicken or grilled meats.

ABOUT THE WINE

JAMES SUCKLING 92 points
Aromas of ripe berries, licorice, cloves and nut shell with some earthy undertones. Medium body. It’s round and supple on the palate with dusty tannins and a dry, velvety finish. Try from 2025.

DECANTER 91 points
Drinking Window: 2023 - 2034
Careful extraction sees a clear tannic frame to give balance and form to the wine without getting in the way of enjoyment, meaning this is a bottle that can easily be opened within the next few years. Silky texture, and the power builds through the palate, as concentrated brambled fruits begin to emerge. A slight bitterness overtakes the final push of the wine, this is spicy, intense and enjoyable. A yield of 40hl/ha. Tasted three times. Cru Bourgeois Supérieur.

WINE ENTHUSIAST 91 points
With a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, the wine from this estate in the heart of the Haut-Médoc is rich and full of spicy black-currant fruits. Drink from 2027. — Roger Voss
