Description

The Waterford Estate Antigo 2022 is a Bordeaux-style red blend originating from the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. Produced in the Blaauwklippen Valley, the wine is named after the specific clay-rich soil type found on the estate. The blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by specific allocations of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The vines are cultivated in these red clay soils, which retain moisture effectively and contribute to the wine's structured development and deep ruby colour.

During the winemaking process, the grape varieties are fermented and aged separately in French oak barrels prior to final blending. This method ensures structural integration and consistency. The 2022 vintage is characterised by a dark fruit profile, featuring primary aromas of dark plum, black cherry, and cassis, underpinned by earthy tones and a subtle cedar influence from the oak maturation.

On the palate, the Merlot and Cabernet Franc components work to soften the firm tannins inherent in the Cabernet Sauvignon. This creates a balanced, approachable structure with a dry finish.
